Wyoming, Air Force and BYU vs. Utah /Updated

The Utah Utes Swimming and Diving Team had 2 eventful weeks. After a relatively easy victory against the Wyoming Cowboys, the Utes went on to take down the U.S. Air Force Falcons and were only stopped by the BYU Cougars in a nail-biting confrontation.
Throughout history the cowboys demonstrated to be the stronger foes in the prairie, the Utah Utes however didn't give them a chance on the last match-up of the to natural enemies, they figuratively scalped them.
The Utah swimming team only took one day of rest before they took on one of the top ranked teams of the MWC (Mountain West Conference). The meet was even throughout the whole day, and it was thanks to Seamus Alger that the University of Utah took the lead. He out touched 3 of the best 400IM'ers in the conference after an electrifying finish.
Only the Cougars coming from the Brigham Young University managed to stop the fury and take the victory away from the Utes.

The past few weeks were exciting and the team that competed in the Ute Natatorium was seemingly not the same that swam against TCU. A little change in the cheering routine and the small home field advantage, awoke the temper that was needed to compete at that high level. Eventhough they had to accept the loss against BYU, they definitely showed what they are capable of, and one can only look forward to the showdown at the MWC Championship meet that will be held in Oklahoma City two weeks from now.

Das Schwimmteam der 'University of Utah' hatte 2 ereignisreiche Wochen. Nach einem relativ einfachen Sieg gegen die Wyoming Cowboys, nahmen wir uns die U.S. Air Force Falcons vor und konnten nur von den BYU Cougers gestoppt werden.
Die Geschichte hat uns folgendes gelehrt: die Cowboys sind normalerweise die stärkeren Schurken in der Prärie. Die Utah Utes gaben den Cowboys jedoch keine Chance in der letzten Begegnung der beiden natürlichen Feinde.
Die Utes hatten nur einen Tag um sich für den nächsten Wettkampf fertig zu machen. Der Gegner hiess 'U.S Air Force' einer der best rangierten Teams der MWC (Mountain West Conference). Der Wettkampf war durchwegs ausgeglichen. Seamus Alger war es zu verdanken dass die 'University of Utah' die Führung übernahm. Er berührte die Wand nur wenige hundertstel vor den drei führenden top 400 Lagen Schwimmern der Conference.
Nur die Cougars (Pumas) von der Brigham Young Universität brachten es fertig uns den Sieg wegzuschnappen.

Die letzten Wochen waren genial und das Team welches im Ute Natatorium zu sehen war, schien nicht das selbe zu sein welches Wochen zuvor gegen TCU konkurrierte. Nur eine kleine Änderung im Kampfschreis und ein kleiner Heimvorteil, weckten das Temperament das nötig war um auf diesem hohen Niveau zu schwimmen. Obwohl wir einen Verlust gegen BYU hinemehn mussten, haben wir gezeigt was wir im Stande sind zu schwimmen.

Dual meet vs. TCU

Let me tell you about my first disappointing meet here at Utah. So far everything went pretty well for me and I swam decent to good times on every dual meet. TCU (Texas Christian University) ended up to be an embarrassing performance of myself and most part of the team. Explanations for this misery could be that we just came back from a hard training camp, but mostly I felt that the whole team was not mentally ready. The fault in my opinion is therefore to be found in each individual athlete. I hope we pull our shit together for the upcoming meets against Wyoming and Air Force. You can find my times at the end of this post.


Letztes Wochenende war der erste entäuschende Wettkampf seitdem ich hier in Utah begonnen habe. Bis anhin ging alles ziemlich gut und ich habe an jedem Wettkampf durchschnittliche bis gute Zeiten geschwommen. Der Wettkampf gegen TCU (Texas Christian University) hat sich jedoch als eine peinliche Darbietung meinerseits und dem grössten Teil des Teams erwiesen. Eine mögliche Erklärung für die Misere könnte sein, dass die meisten Erschöpfungserscheinungen zeigten aufgrund des harten Trainingslager welches wir kürzlich hatten. Ich bin jedoch der Meinung, dass das Team als Ganzes mental nicht bei der Sache war. Der Fehler ist deswegen bei jedem Individuell zu suchen. Ich hoffe bloss dass wir uns für die nächsten Wettkämpfe gegen Wyoming und Air Force zusammenreissen können. Meine Zeiten sind am Ende dieses Berichts zu finden.

Training Trip in San Diego

New Year Party

Since I had to be back by the 27th of December to start with the training camp here in Utah, I did not celebrate New Year in Switzerland, but in Salt Lake City. I had a great time... here the pictures.


Ich musste schon am 27. Dezember in Utah sein da dann das Trainingslager begann. Deswegen feierte ich den Einzug ins neue Jahr nicht in der Schweiz, sondern in Salt Lake City. Ich hatte eine gute Zeit... hier die Bilder.
